Ortega Says She Was Misunderstood

Jenna Ortega is reflecting on her infamous 2023 comments about pushing back on initial scripts for hit Netflix series "Wednesday." During an appearance on Dax Shepard and Monica Padman's Armchair Expert podcast, Ortega gave out some ill-advised advice that rubbed fans the wrong way.

In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Ortega says she could have used her words better. "I don't want to make it seem like I'm this actor who walks around on set and just says, 'I'm going to change this line and this line,'" she explains. "That's not what I'm saying at all."

Ortega says she was simply trying to convey that she is an active participant in her creative process. "I'm always looking for ways to make a character my own," she says. "And sometimes that means making changes to the script."

Ortega says she has learned from her experience and is now more careful about how she expresses herself. "I'm still learning and growing," she says. "I'm not perfect. But I'm always trying to do better. I've definitely learned to be more respectful of the writing process and to be more collaborative with my fellow actors and crew."
