Pope Francis has recognized a second miracle attributed to Carlo Acutis, a young Italian Catholic who died of leukemia in 2006. The new miracle, involving the healing of a Brazilian boy suffering from a rare pancreatic disorder, was approved by Pope Francis during an audience with Cardinal Marcello Semeraro, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, on Tuesday.

With the recognition of this second miracle, Acutis is now one step closer to being canonized as a saint. The first miracle attributed to Acutis, the healing of a child in Mexico from a rare genetic disease, was recognized by Pope Francis in 2020.

Acutis was born in London in 1991 to Italian parents. He was diagnosed with leukemia in 2006 and died just a few months later. During his short life, Acutis was devoted to the Eucharist and was known for his love of computers. He created a website to document Eucharistic miracles around the world.

"Carlo Acutis is a model for young people today," said Archbishop Angelo Becciu, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints. "He showed that it is possible to live a life of holiness even in the midst of the challenges of the modern world."
