Seize the Grey has emerged victorious in the 149th Preakness Stakes, claiming the coveted title at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland, on Saturday evening. Despite entering the race as the clear favorite, Kentucky Derby winner Mystik Dan ultimately finished second, falling short in his bid to capture the Triple Crown.
As the gates opened, Seize the Grey, trained by D. Wayne Lukas, surged ahead and maintained a commanding lead throughout the 1 3/16-mile race. Jockey Jose Ortiz guided the horse to victory, while Mystik Dan, ridden by Mike Smith, trailed behind but failed to catch up.
The post time for the race was set for 6:50 pm, and it was broadcast live on NBC and streamed on Peacock. The purse for the 2024 Preakness Stakes is expected to be $2 million, which will be split among the top five finishers, with the winner receiving $1.2 million.
